Cooperation between Chair of Applied Mechanics and TUfast Racing Team
This month, we started a new cooperation between the TUfast Racing Team and our chair. Together with some TUfast students, we are exploring methods to improve the design process of their next racing cars. For this, we are applying one method from the chair's specialized research topics: Transfer Path Analysis with blocked forces source characterization.
The idea is to characterize the excitation from the road during various driving maneuvers from operational measurements on an older car. The estimated forces can then be transferred to next year's design, allowing the team to predict the dynamic responses before the new car is even built.
The video shows some excerpts from the quite intense dynamic testing. Intense mainly because we had to risk our MÜLLER-BBM VibroAkustik Systeme GmbH PAK MKII measurement system and 16 triaxial accelerometers.
