As a member of TUM, the chair of fml also shares the spirit of international cooperation. Prof. Biaosong Chen visited our chair today with his team members, Prof. Haijun Peng, Dr. Sheng Zhang and Mr. Yunpeng Li. They all come from the Faculty of Engineering Mechanics, Dalian University of Technology. Their visit is one part of academic exchange of our ongoing Sino-German Research Project. The main research interests of Prof. Chen are dynamic analysis and structure optimization of large-scale engineering structure. For Prof. Peng, he forces on the research of optimal control problem and multi-body dynamics.

During our academic seminar in the morning, Prof. Chen made a presentation to introduce the main achievements and current work of his team. The “Software Integration Platform for Engineering and Scientific Computation”, short as SiPESC, is the new generation of the software system for numerical simulation developed by the team of Prof. Chen with the support of some other professors from their faculty. SiPESC is developed on the framework of “platform+plugin” and it is convenient for customers to select or develop proper plugin and interfaces for different tasks. Several engineering applications were introduced, including high-speed train, wind turbine, rocket structure, buildings and mobile cranes. Prof. Peng also introduced his main research interest, the development of numerical solution method for the optimal control problem. They have made some calculation cases using this method, such as trajectory optimization and obstacle avoidance of automatic underwater vehicle and vehicle-trailer system, spacecraft rendezvous and cooperative cranes operation.
