How can companies make their picking processes more efficient and flexible despite labor shortages and ever-shorter delivery times? This is precisely the question we are addressing in the PEAK research project.

Today, logistics planners have a wide range of picking systems to choose from, ranging from traditional solutions to automated systems and mobile robotics. However, there has been no approach to date that objectively compares and evaluates these different systems. This is exactly where we come in.

We are developing a planning tool that systematically compares traditional and automated picking systems and, for the first time, also incorporates mobile robotics into the evaluation. Using discrete-event simulation, we test various scenarios, analyze performance, and identify which solutions are flexible, efficient, and cost-effective.
