Departments of the iwb

The researchers at the iwb develop solution strategies for the efficient production of tomorrow. To achieve this, the department teams investigate current challenges together with you as a project partner – scientifically and with a focus on problem-solving. This work is carried out not only within the institute's research fields but also on-site at the respective companies. By clicking on the respective department, you can learn more about the competencies and equipment of our teams.
Currently, approximately 80 research associates from the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, and business administration work at the iwb. Around 25 staff members in the workshops, laboratories, and administration ensure the practical implementation and long-term availability of these solutions. These capacities are supplemented and expanded by approximately 200 student assistants.
The iwb is organized in a matrix structure. The departments and the Service Center on one side correspond to the research fields on the other. The institute is managed by the Board of Directors, which currently consists of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael F. Zäh, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rüdiger Daub, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christina Reuter, along with several experienced assistants. This is where the strategic direction of the institute is determined and its implementation planned.
