InKaBLA - Integriertes Kapazitäts- und Bedarfsmanagement für die Lieferkette "Antrieb"
Motivation
The ongoing transformation of powertrain technologies and the associated uncertainty in market development significantly complicate mid- to long-term demand planning. At the same time, an increasing share of value creation for powertrain components is sourced externally, leading to more fragmented and coordination-intensive production and supply networks. In industrial practice, transparency regarding available capacities and their temporal development is often limited—particularly at the interfaces between internal production units and external suppliers. Asynchronous planning logics and isolated decision-making processes hinder an integrated view of demand and capacity, thereby increasing the risk of bottlenecks, inefficient resource utilization, or supply disruptions.
Objective
The objective of the project is to develop an integrated approach for synchronized capacity and demand planning across the powertrain supply chain. By systematically linking internal and external capacity information, the project aims to create transparency, identify critical dependencies, and assess the impact of different demand scenarios at an early stage. This enables informed decision-making to safeguard supply security and to flexibly adjust production programs.
Approach
The project begins with the establishment of a consistent capacity and demand data base covering both internal production units and external suppliers. Building on this foundation, a simulation model is developed to analyze various demand, capacity, and coordination scenarios. The simulation results are used to identify potential bottlenecks and to determine available residual capacities that can be reallocated to alternative powertrain programs. Finally, the developed methods are integrated into existing planning processes and validated in a practical environment.
