The day began for everyone with our colleagues at Fraunhofer IGCV. We discussed the process up to the final cast component creation, tried out CAD software, watched 3D printing and microscoped microstructures in the laboratory. The new industrial Robocast-V system was impressive in size alone and offered a great insight into the modern aluminum foundry.
After a well-deserved lunch break, the girls were allowed to get their hands dirty at the utg and mold small owls themselves. It takes a lot of strength to sieve, tap and smooth the heavy oil sand. The casting with molten aluminum was better left to the professionals.
The utg's test hall also provided inspiration for many more interested questions about the large presses for cutting and forming tests.
We all had a lot of fun together and are already looking forward to Girls' Day 2026. Getting girls interested in technology and research is an important task for us and our social future!
