The research projects of the FZG range from theoretically oriented fundamental work to very application-oriented experimental work. The projects are financed and supported by different organizations. A large part of the projects is initiated, financed and supervised by the Forschungsvereinigung Antriebstechnik e.V. (FVA), mostly together with the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF). Other important research partners are, for example, the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Bavarian Research Foundation (BFS), the German Society for Sustainable Energy Carriers, Mobility and Carbon Cycles e.V. (DGMK), the Research Association for Combustion Engines e.V. (FVV) or steel research. In addition, many application-oriented projects are requested and commissioned directly by industry.
