Project Description

For some time now, FVA has defined a series of so-called reference oils. Their purpose is to enable a comparison between research results of different projects, where the lubricant can have a significant influence, over a longer period of time. The ageing and low availability of some of these oils provide an opportunity to renew the existing reference oil concept and critically examine it with the aim of developing a new and sustainable reference oil system. Based on the previous projects "Reference Oils 2019" (FVA 852 I [Emm22]) and "Reference Oils 2030" (FVA 852 II [Emm23]), the selection of new FVA reference oils in the project is to be completed and the new oils released for use. To this end, final measurements and load arrying capacity tests must first be carried out for the successor FVA 3/FVA 3A, which emerged from FVA 852 II as a potential candidate. On the release route described in Part II, further new reference oils are to be defined as Prio 1 oils. They are to follow FVA 2/FVA 2A as mineral oil and serve as synthesis oil for the validation of simulations. The reference oils are upplemented by Prio-2 oils, which are intended to represent the current state of the art and serve as references for certain component tests as an agile system. These Prio-2 oils are to be determined and listed in consultation with the PAs and manufacturers concerned.

Finally, release tests are defined that a new batch of the reference oils must pass. All specifications, data and load carrying capacity values are to be made available in a database on Themis to users in the member companies of the FVA as well as to research institutions.
