Description
The module "Polymers and Polymer Technology" teaches the basics of the material class of polymers and its processing methods. The following topics, among others, are covered:
- Structural design of polymers
- Chemical, physical and rheological properties and their effects on processability
- Polymers processing methods (extrusion, injection moulding, compounding and additive manufacturing) and selected special processes
- Areas of application of the various polymers
- Plastic-compatible construction, moulded part design and toolmaking
- Different test methods for polymers analysis
- Recycling of polymers
- Examples of the application of polymers technology in current research projects at the Chair of Medical Materials and Implants (MMI)
Learning outcomes
After successful participation in the module "Polymers and Polymer Technology", students will have the following skills:
- Basic knowledge of the different classes of polymers, their fields of application and processing possibilities
- Critical evaluation of polymers technology problems
- Own development of innovative solutions in the field of polymers technology
