Project Description

The central objective of SP 4 is to create a generally valid procedure for the design and evaluation of a powertrain using the example of a battery electric vehicle (BEV).

With the increasing electrification of vehicles, new requirements are entering the development of innovative drive systems and components, whereby the choice of drive unit usually has a decisive influence on the development of the transmission used. In this context, the product development process for the design of an efficient powertrain requires the use of simulation tools and tests as well as a large amount of data from production and series. In addition, a great deal of expert knowledge is required. SMEs in particular, however, usually do not have sufficient resources and the necessary specialized knowledge for this. However, methods of digitization, networking and artificial intelligence available today offer opportunities to accelerate the development process and improve the achievable results even with low personnel input. However, the know-how to apply innovative digital engineering methods is often not available. Therefore, a guideline for the efficient use of the new technologies in the modular development of powertrains is developed to enable maximum benefit from the possibilities of digital engineering. The approach is demonstrated using the example of a BEV powertrain with a focus on transmission development.
