Chemical and Physical Reduction of Frictional Energy

Project Description

Due to climate change and limited resources, the energy and resource efficiency of machines and plants increasingly become more and more important. The aim of the CHEPHREN joint project is to reduce friction by means of superlubricity mechanism in machine elements. In the CHEPHREN research project, the Gear Research Center (FZG) primarily deals with reducing energy dissipation in gearboxes with requirement adapted tribosystems. In addition to basic research on tribological contact level, the findings are systematically transferred to applications such as gearings. In particular, research is conducted in the following fields:

- Superlubricity with water-based lubricants and coatings
- Power-transmitting tribocontacts made of plastics
- Demand-oriented lubrication methods for gear components
- Frictional energy at higher gearbox speeds
- High-resolution determination of energy dissipation and friction condition using modern tribosensor technology

In addition, FZG will evaluate the tribological solution approaches of the consortium partners and provide support on tribology and transmission topics.
