Our research group works on the design, simulation and optimization of structures in the field of mechanical engineering, particularly in aerospace. Here, it is often difficult to reach a weight minimum and fulfill different functional requirements at the same time. Various computation and multidisciplinary optimization techniques are investigated to simulate the system behavior in a realistic manner and to design an optimum structure with respect to given requirements. Static and dynamic simulations are carried out as well as fatigue and fracture mechanics. In addition, our research group deals with various approaches that help engineers to better meet the overall technical requirements of an additively manufactured product during the development phase. In order to evaluate computation and optimization techniques, the research group executes diverse tests in the LPL-Lab. Thus, modal analyzes as well as static and cyclic tests up to entire component tests are carried out at the testing lab of LPL.
