Automation 1

Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Birgit Vogel-Heuser
WS   SWS: 2+1   ECTS: 5 WS   Examination: written (90 min, German)

The lecture covers topics related to the automation of technological components in machines and plants. Thereby, an overview of automation technology is provided related to the used devices and structures. Further, interfaces between the automation system and the physical process via sensors and actuators are explored, as well as the interface between humans and the machine. Industrial communication (e.g., fieldbus systems) and the control of machines using the the languages of IEC 61131-3 are taught to understand the realization of the machine's logical control. Throughout the lecture, an important emphasis is placed on the interaction of the system's parts to realize the common goal of automating a machine or plant. Therefore, a methodical approach to the conceptualization, realization, testing, and commissioning is covered. Finally, the lecture provides an introduction into manufacturing execution systems (MES).

The lecture is part of the following study programmes:

  • Mechanical engineering (Bachelor)
  • Informatics (Bachelor)
  • Electrical engineering (Master)
  • TUM-BWL (Master)
  • MSE (Bachelor)
  • Education (Bachelor)

The lecture is presented in German. For more detailed information, please refer to the German version of this page.
