fml student receives VDMA Young Talent Award

Great success for our Master's student Runxin Wang! On Wednesday, he received the VDMA Young Talent Award in Frankfurt for his outstanding Master's thesis. In his thesis, Runxin – supported by our cooperation partner ITK Engineering GmbH – developed a tool for evaluating Visual SLAM algorithms.
SLAM technology enables the localization of robots and the mapping of their environment. Using 3D cameras, it will also become important for robotics applications in unstructured outdoor environments such as construction sites in the future. Thanks to Runxin's work, it is now possible to precisely assess the suitability of various algorithms for such environments using detailed simulations and the data sets derived from them.
