Curriculum Vitae

Markus Ahrens studied biotechnology at the Weihenstephan-Treisdorf University of Applied Sciences (B.Sc.) and absolved his practical semester and his bachelor thesis at the Institute of Medical and Polymer Engineering at the Technical University of Munich. During his bachelor's degree he worked as a student assistant at the institute and was primarily preoccupied with the evaluation of the material silicone for electrospinning process for medical applications and investigated various surface modifications to increase the hydrophilicity of silicone membranes and their biocompatibility.

From May 2016 to August 2018, Markus Ahrens worked as a biotechnologist at the Chair of Medical Materials and Implants in addition to his master's degree in micro and nanotechnology at the Munich University of Applied Sciences (M.Sc.). As part of the AntiMik2 project, he focuses on the development of self-disinfecting plastic surfaces for hygienic applications.

From September 2018 to February 2021, Markus Ahrens worked as a project manager (BioPolFol) in cooperation with the Süddeutsche Kunststoffzentrum in Würzburg on the development of antimicrobial films for packaging applications.

Since the beginning of 2021, Markus Ahrens has been researching the development of new sterilization processes such as plasma-activated water (PAW).
