Title of the Dissertation:
Alpine Skiing Injuries in Consideration of the Evolution in Skiing Technology
Abstract:
Since the beginning of the carving-ski trend in the mid nineties, the carving-ski has conquered alpine skiing and in the meantime the carving-ski is used by the majority of skiers. Continuing a previous study the report tries to evaluate eventual links between carving-skis and injuries in alpine skiing. For this reason a group of injured skiers (1224 persons) is compared to a control-group of uninjured skiers (1825 persons). Additional the injuries are analysed in order to detect the influence of the ski´s side-cut radius and the ski-length on the injury pattern. Also gender, age and the skiiing abilities were taken into account.
