On October 30th at Pavilion 333, the TUM School of Engineering and Design (ED) hosted "Engineering Together – Towards Responsible Transformation": a public event showcasing how engineering, design, and society can jointly shape responsible transformation.
Three interdisciplinary summer programs explored transformation from different angles — Belonging (Prof. Annette Diefenthaler), Working Environments (Prof. Klaus Bengler), and Built Structures (Prof. Mark Michaeli) — each highlighting the social role and contributions of engineers in shaping future living and working cultures.
As part of the Transformation & Working Environments segment, our Lehrstuhl für Ergonomie/ Human Factors TUM presented outcomes from the Interdisciplinary Project X seminar.
During the Summer Semester 2025, four interdisciplinary student teams explored the theme “Seamless Work-Life Integration,” investigating how technology can ease transitions between work and life.
Their projects examined:
💼 Working during the commute
👩🏫 Handovers and substitutions in teaching
🏠 Physical separation between work and life in home-office settings
💊 Relieving spillover stress in the healthcare workforce
Through four iterations – Exploration, Ideation, Prototyping, and Evaluation – the teams progressively refined their concepts toward more human-centered and context-sensitive solutions.
We were honored to display the results of our student teams from Interdisciplinary Project X in the exhibition – ‘Transformation Cabinet of Curiosities’.
Moreover, the Chair of Ergonomics hosted a panel discussion, Dialogue on Working Environments, featuring Robert Martinez von Bülow (BMW Group), Sascha Wischniewski (BAuA), Nicole Fritsch (Semester Representative HFE), and Prof. Klaus Bengler (TUM), moderated by Dr. Lorenz Prasch (Proband 15) – former colleague and one of the original initiators of the Interdisciplinary Project X.
A heartfelt gratitude to all participating students, colleagues, and guests who made this exchange so inspiring — demonstrating how responsible transformation can be both tangible and collaborative across our working environments.
LfE Organization Team: Dr. Verena Knott, Yuchen Liu, and Rutuja Joshi.
The projects were supported by Bundesanstalt für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen (BASt)
